Adrien Jean Le Mayeur, (b.1880-1958), is one of the most famous 19th Century artists. His style was impressionistic, coupled with short brush strokes and the use of thick paint. In his persistent search for beauty, sunlight and serenity, Le Mayeur travelled to Europe, Tahiti, India and Africa but found the tranquillity he desired in Bali.

Antonio Blanco (1911-1999), a master Spanish-American artist, is renowned for his expressive and romantic paintings. He identified himself with great artists like Salvador Dali and Willem Hofker. Blanco was flamboyant by nature and was known for the signature red beret that he wore. He spent most of the second half of his life in Bali and married his Balinese muse and dancer Ni Ronji in 1953.
